The Fort Mill HS Band was named Marching Band of the Year at the 5th Annual Charlotte Music Awards held on Thursday night, Dec. 8th at the Halton Theater in downtown Charlotte. The CMAs honor outstanding performance ensembles in the greater Charlotte area–from rock bands to bluegrass bands to marching bands. CMA founder Jeff Cheen notified FMHS Band Director John Pruitt in advance and asked the band to be part of the show’s opening musical production. Fort Mill performed a medley of Christmas favorites and “The Horse”–the school’s fight song, which started as a platinum-selling hit for Cliff Nobles & Co. in 1968.
